Hiring SCSC Club Lasers

(For members only)

Revised for 2007

There are two Lasers available to hire for club members in 2007 during usual periods when the club is open (weekends and Wednesday evenings from late spring to early autumn.) These are both in row H - the Red Laser in berth 177 which is Radial rigged and the Green Laser in berth 176 which has a 4.7 rig. The Radial rig suits a sailor weight of 55-75 kilos and the 4.7 rig a range of 40-55 kilos. (There is no full rig available for hire but adults heavier than 75 kilos who are fairly new to the Laser will do best in a Radial.) "Red" and "Green" are colour codes shown by strips of tape which you will find on the transoms of the boats, on the rudder, centreboard and each separate piece of each Laser. They do not refer to the colours of the hull or the covers.

To hire, you will need to know how to rig the Club Laser you want or have the assistance of someone who does. Brand new hirers will need to arrange a time to run through the rigging. Detailed rigging instructions can be downloaded to help jog your memory if you haven't done it for a long time. Click on one of the two links here:

All booking will be authorised by Astrid Martin or someone who will take over when she is on holiday. You can phone her on 01793 824182 or text or phone on mobile number  07880 886 573 or e-mail astrid.martinno@spamhomecall.co.uk (remove "no" and "spam" before using) Bookings will be open exactly four weeks in advance of the date that boat is wanted. No more than two advanced bookings can be made at one time. If several people book on the same day preference will be given to new or less frequent users at her discretion. Sailors aged under 25 will be given preference. However an Adult (25 - 64) or Senior (65 and over) booking can only be replaced by a Junior (under 18) or Youth (18 - 24) booking up to a week before the hiring date. The booking is confirmed when Astrid provides the combination to the Laser cupboard either by email or over the phone.

Steps for hiring

1. Contact Astrid by one of the above methods.

2. She will confirm by letting you know the combination of the Laser cupboard (currently kept in the single garage closest to the clubhouse).

3. On the day you have booked to sail collect the appropriate sail from one of the three shelves. The top shelf has the 4.7 sail (which has no number) the middle shelf holds the Radial sail (in a red bag). The bottom shelf stores the full rig sail which is not currently in use. Lock the cupboard after you.

4. Find your boat. The Red Laser is in Berth 177, the Green Laser is in Berth 176.

5. Rig your boat using the downloaded instructions if needed. Do not untie anything to rig the boat. Any knot covered in black tape must not be undone. If you are tempted to do so it probably means you are rigging things in the wrong order.

6. After sailing, put all equipment away neatly in the boat and return the sail to the cupboard. Once again, don't undo any knots with tape on. Leave the bailer shut. Tie down the boat securely and ensure the sail is properly flaked and folded before you put it away. If your sail is wet, hang it to dry in the garage. If you can't replace the sail dry in the cupboard later on, then notify Astrid - preferably by email.

7. Any damage or loss of parts of the rig  -  must be notified to Astrid at the earliest opportunity by telephone:

01793 824182 or text or phone on mobile number  07880 886 573 or e-mail astrid.martinno@spamhomecall.co.uk (remove "no" and "spam" before using)

Paying

The cost of hiring for a half-day or evening session is £12.00 for an adult (25 - 64), £6.00 for youth (18 - 24) or senior (65 and over) and £3.00 for juniors (under 18). There are two ways to pay:

1. Buy a season ticket (£48.00 Adult, £24.00 Youth or Senior, £12.00 Junior) entitling you to 5 half-days for the cost of 4. A cheque should be sent to Astrid made payable to South Cerney Sailing Club no later than two weeks after the date of hiring. If the full value on the season ticket is not taken in one season it can be transferred to the next season. N.B. Season ticket holders still need to book each session in the usual way.

2. Pay cash on the day you use the boat. Astrid will give you instructions how to pay when your booking is confirmed.

Problems?

Contact Astrid on: 01793 824182 or text or phone on mobile number  07880 886 573 or e-mail astrid.martinno@spamhomecall.co.uk  (remove "no" and "spam" before using)

Please note carefully that the hiring system requires the responsible co-operation of hirers and is therefore open to abuse. Any minor misuse of the equipment or of the hiring system will be dealt with by a partial or seasonal ban on hiring. Serious abuse will be reported to the Sailing Committee and, where necessary, the Executive Committee.
